In 2008, a giant luxury wheel company decided to enter the aftermarket rims niche, focusing specifically on the off-road segment. No one would have known at the time how immensely popular the newer entity would later become.
When Fuel Wheels was set up by MHT Luxury Alloys, it would quietly change the course of how off-road rims are made and marketed. Of course, there were several brands that were already active in this prized sub-niche, but most of them did not want to disrupt the existing market.
Fuel wanted to, and it did.
Since MHT Luxury gave the new company enough space, financial heft, and creative independence, Fuel took all these factors and added in some extraordinary R&D. The result is for everyone to see; Fuel sits at the top of the off-road rims market.
Even if you are a casual off-roader, you must have procured at least one set of Fuel Wheels in the past. Serious off-roading enthusiasts often stick only to Fuel rims. With so many different models and upgrades, there are chances that you might have missed out on a few really good rims. It’s possible.
Here are a few Fuel rims that sell in impressive numbers but are often overlooked.
5 Fuel Wheels for 2023 and beyond
Here are 5 awesome rims you should look out for!
- D823 Flame 6: This 1-piece stunner is a cast off-road wheel that will fit almost every vehicle that plies in the United States and is available in several sizes and offsets. However, the 20-inch model outsells every other variant. The D823 has seen a recent upgrade and a new dual color scheme of black and red.
This is the flagship of the ‘Flame’ series that Fuel Wheels sells in most major international markets. It’s a muscular and surprisingly lightweight rim that will take on the harshest of terrain without so much as a hiccup. All you need is a perfectly suited set of off-road A/T or M/T tires.
Like all other models mentioned below, this too is manufactured out of avionics-grade 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. Buy this inspired set from your local retailer if you plan to start off 2023 with brand-new wheels.
- D741 Runner: It is true that the D742 from the ‘Runner’ range is better-known, but it would be a big mistake to underestimate the D741. In fact, it is more muscular than its sibling and is slightly more concave. It also boasts a unique spoke style that looks like antlers in a mixer-grinder!
Jokes apart, the D741 is a beast of an off-road wheel and is wildly popular among people who live only to drive.
Just 2 weeks ago, we spotted a lifted GMC Sierra with the glossy black D741 rims and Nitto tires. Awesome would be an understatement!
- D713 Rage: This is one of those models that might have passed under the radar if you haven’t been paying attention. The D713 (with a spanking new platinum version) is a great find at very attractive prices. It takes the standard 6-spoke design template and adds a signature Fuel Wheels mod by ensuring that they branch out before touching the inner lip.
This is one of our favorite rims from Fuel mostly because we have used them too! One of the professionals at AudioCity USA, a hugely respected retailer in California, had advised us to try these out on our old Dodge RAM.
That expert was 100% right- with a set of black D713 rims, the RAM looked a decade younger!
If you are new to Fuel, start out with the 20-inch variant.
- D754 Reaction: Another flagship of the ‘Reaction’ range of off-road rims, the D754 did not always get the attention it deserved because it looked identical to all other ‘Reaction’ stars. That stopped when Fuel correctly deduced the reason of flagging sales and started promoting the rim in brighter colors- destined to turn heads.
The milled candy red D754 Reaction is now one of the fastest-selling Fuel rims. This bright finish looks as great on ATVs as it does on full-size SUVs and Jeep Wranglers. We have seen this finish just once adorning what looked like an F-150 Raptor. It was a killer!
Also, this rim comes in 3 different bolt patterns. That’s a brilliant value addition right there!
The D754 Reaction is for those who are looking to ramp up their style quotient while retaining the tough-as-nails performance metrics. Go for the 20-inch model if you’re unsure about what exactly you want!
- D810 Syndicate Blackout: Fuel Wheels added the D810 to its ‘Syndicate’ 1-piece rim family after the existing models failed to impress most of its clients. It was a risk that paid off pretty well; the D810 has sold in humongous numbers and has climbed to the top of this family.
It’s christened ‘Blackout’ because the matte black finish – the only color available in fact – has been nicknamed so by the fans! Fuel took up that name.
This is the smallest rim on this list with a diameter of 17-inches. It fits very well with all SUVs and even city cars like sedans and coupes. A true all-rounder!
Fuel has promised a few more finish options come 2023.
Wrapping up
Unfortunately, the market is flooded with fake Fuel Wheels because they are so popular. It’s highly recommended that you get a set only from authorized and established outlets.
That’s about it!
