Stark Learning

Stark Learning has selected DiSTI’s virtual development platform, VE Studio®, to develop a virtual maintenance system that offers certification for training truck drivers required to become operators qualified to refuel Liquid Natural Gas independently.

The organization of refueling training is a challenging and time-consuming process. A Virtual Reality training solution lowers the threshold for transport companies to use LNG-fueled trucks and provides an extra incentive to invest in LNG-powered transport.

The VE Studio® workflow is ideal for Stark Learning, helping them approach tasks as procedures, and allowing them to change, update, and build training solutions at scale.

VE Studio® allows Stark Learning to develop a standard methodology for their VR training. Leveraging VE Studio® allows Stark Learning to create virtual maintenance trainers for virtual reality, desktop, and touchscreen-based devices.

The challenge was to adhere to the PGS (safety regulation guidelines) as the German-Dutch border region does not allow unmanned LNG refueling unless done under the supervision of an operator. While there are approximately 40 drivers per truck, only 10-20 truck drivers receive this dangerous refueling training.DiSTI needed to develop a scalable digital solution by creating a standard training methodology to certify every truck driver on this procedure.

Stark Learning utilized DiSTI’s VE Studio® to build an immersive virtual training solution with lowered training costs. The prime benefit of using VE Studio® is its ability to empower non-Unity developers, including 3D artists, to utilize the VE Studio® workflow and assist them in developing virtual training solutions. 

Stark Learning could retrieve the necessary refueling procedures from truck operation manuals and place them into the workflow to create the virtual training steps. The team proceeded to develop a 1:1 model of a detailed refueling station, putting the user in a realistic scenario, requiring them to complete the steps to refuel the truck. The final training solution was built in three languages, English, Dutch, and German, and took three months from conception to delivery to complete.
